At SCALA event center, we believe that hospitality and sustainability are inextricably linked. Together with the other entities within Akkerhage Center, we are fully committed to making a positive impact on the environment and our surroundings. Through targeted efforts, we aim to keep our ecological footprint, carbon emissions, water consumption, refuse, and food waste as low as possible. By making conscious choices in energy, procurement, and waste management, we aim not only to make a difference today but also to contribute to a liveable world for tomorrow.

Climate

When it comes to climate and energy, we want to minimise our impact on the environment. We do this by significantly reducing our total energy consumption and carbon emissions and making maximum use of renewable sources. At SCALA, we generate a large part of the energy we use ourselves via solar panels. In addition, we make it easy for our guests to travel sustainably thanks to the presence of forty charging stations in our car park. Our suppliers are also carefully selected: we work with partners who, like us, are actively committed to the climate.

Responsible sourcing

We choose reliable suppliers who meet high environmental and social standards. We pay particular attention to product groups that, depending on how they are produced, can have a greater impact. Examples include animal proteins, bottled water, cleaning products, cocoa, coffee, sugar, paper products, textiles, and seafood. Where possible, we look for responsible alternatives for all these products that benefit both people and the environment.

Water consumption

Water is a precious commodity, which is why we do everything we can to keep our consumption as low as possible and use the water we do use as efficiently as possible. Water-saving behaviour is an integral part of our daily routine: in the kitchen, we utilise smart technology, water-saving taps, and sub-meters, and we conduct regular preventive maintenance. Managing water pressure and optimising the efficiency of our building systems also contribute to this.

Waste reduction

Good waste management is essential, especially at a venue where meetings and events take place. Our priorities? To waste as little food as possible and to minimize the amount of material that ends up in landfills or incineration facilities. By purchasing products that are manufactured using fewer materials, we create less waste without compromising our guests’ experience.
